We spent the next day visiting an old University friend of Patrick’s - Nick -
who hadn't seen each other in 30 years, which was fun. Nick's family live
in a gorgeous place just to the north of Cave Creek.

After we left them, we had about two hours of daylight left (the downside of
winter holidays - you only get about half the daylight hours to play in), so
after consulting the local bike shop, we quickly went a few miles south to Scottsdale
to the corner of Dynamite and Pima roads. The sun was going down fast and there was
a bitterly cold wind, but it was still pretty nice riding so long as you kept moving.
