Sierra San Jose mountains from Montezuma Pass - 6575'/2000 m.
Yikes it was cold. Later that night,
ensconced in a warm motel room (remember,
this was supposed to be a camping trip?), we saw on the Weather Channel that
it
was 17°F / -8°C where we were in Sierra Vista. In Douglas, about 20 miles from
Bisbee,
where we'd considered going instead (souther is warmer, right?) it was 9°F
/ -13°C.
Apparently this was the coldest snap in
southern Arizona in 30 years.
<sigh>
We suffered a mishap this night when
Patrick, who was about to come down
with flu was rummaging in the truck looking for Chili's food, inadvertently left
the overhead light on in the truck, so the battery was completely dead in
the
morning. Luckily for us, AAA was nearby. Curiously, the man who came to
rescue us was originally from the Sacramento area. Huh.
