After an hour hold, we set out
on the 30 mile, second loop (this was the loop used for the 30 mile LD). The
first
obstacle was the Creek of Death - but Zini and I had practiced that the
night before, so we were ready - followed by
the Hunewill Cook Out area (just don't look at the viscious picnic tables); and then
the Wooden Bridge of Death,
which was also manageable, so long as you held
your breath. From there, we passed
the Deer of Death
(lurking in the undergrowth with their big teeth) and
headed out towards Buckeye Canyon.
Here we've turned off the main
dirt road and started to climb again. Down there, you can see three
happy LD-ers coming
in to finish their ride. We decided they must be 30 milers because they were
much too cheery to be front-runner 50s.
