Joyce and her horse had a horrible experience at the very end of the ride
when they inadvertently went through a closed-barbed-wire gate in the dark,
ripping out some fence posts in the process.

(Because much of the trail was on open cattle range, there were several gates
 that required you to dismount to open them and evidently Joyce became
confused and thought this one was going to be open.)

Joyce's horse had a nasty cut on his chest, as well as one on his fetlock. He
looked very sorry for himself at the finish, but miraculously was able to trot out
sound for their completion (and Lightweight win!). The following day he was
very sore, but by later in the day looking much more cheerful. Joyce's husband
reported to me that he should be fine in a few weeks. Best wishes to him for a
