Joshua Tree - May 2003 / IMG_5892 Patrick and Lucy |
Just as we set off again after
inspecting the first snake, I glanced out of the window on to
the verge and my eye landed on this guy asleep in the dirt about 6' in from
the edge of
the road. He was curled in a slight depression, so only slightly above
ground and blended
brilliantly with his surroundings. It's only because I looked right at him
that I saw him. After
I made Patrick stop the truck and go back, we had a bit of a hard time
finding him again.
Anyway, to me, this shows how
easy it would be to step on one of these while you were
out innocently hiking. Hopefully, he'd be too sleepy to react quickly.
Hopefully.
