Jumping cholla are so named because when you brush against the plant, it fires off its bobbles to attach to you with their little hooky spines. Eventually the bobble drops onto the ground and a new cholla plant is started.

These looked as though they had been burnt - they were a rich chocolate brown on their trunks, but apparently that is the normal colour of these plants.

Many of these were well over my head.
