Mouse and I practising our manners. Shortly before this
photo was taken, she had nipped me because she didn't fancy doing what
we were doing (hind-end disengagements from a wibbling rope on her
neck). So much for respect from her. Needless to say, she was in deep
trouble and I chased her backwards nearly down the bank. |
|
Once we'd established that her behaviour constituted bad
manners, we moved on to trotting out practice. No slugabed shuffling
trot-outs for us.
She's definitely got the hang of trotting out nicely, although it's
debatable as to whether she'll do it when tired - we'll see. All I have
to do is make sure she keeps a cheerful face on while performing as she
has a tendency to scowl. |

So on about 6th of January, I took Provie out for a spin -
the first in many, many months (with the exception of a quick 4 miles
along Andy Wolf Road).
When I got him out of the trailer, I went over to chat to some guys
on mountain bikes. "Beautiful horse", one guy
commented... "that's a very unusual colour, isn't it? that sort
of strawberry colour..."
<snort> I tried very hard to persuade them that Provo was, in
fact, sparkly white under there, but they weren't convinced |
|
We rode from Third Gate on hw-193 and rode down to Maine
Bar and back up again - maybe five/six miles round trip, with a nice dip
into the bottom of the canyon and out again. Provo was, surprisingly, a
very good boy and worked hard. Here he is at the end...nice and grimy. |
|
On the way to Maine Bar, we passed the memorial to Barbara
S?? who was killed by a mountain lion on this trail in 19--
They have build a bench out of stone next to the trail, overlooking a
gorgeous view of the American River far below. They have also planted
the bank with rosemary and wild flowers. |
|
There is a plaque on the bench. Next time I'll try and
take a pic of it... and of the lovely view. |
|
Looking back. |
|
A lovely sunny day, looking out to the east across the
valley from our back deck. |
