Lil' Dog

Much to our surprise, this weekend we became the proud parents of a lil' dog obtained through Doberman Rescue of Sacramento (very fine folk). She is a dobie mix (not sure what the other part is - choc lab, or maybe german shorthair?), about ten months old and a real sweetie. After about three weeks we finally settled on the name Chili Dog.

We met a couple of cats, as well as watched the chooks, and the horses (the horses, as they galloped past, were the most exciting apparently).

Trips to the garden for elimination purposes resulted in much lying around in the nice cool grass. Not exactly what we had in mind.

She did eventually produce in the late afternoon accompanied by much praise. She's been an outdoor dog all her life, so isn't yet house broken.

On the way home, we stopped at a local park-let - Dave Moore County Park. It's a little oak studded winding trail that leads from hw-49 down to the American River.

Lil' dog thought this very fine and behaved immaculately, heeling on her lead like she'd done it all her life. Attempts to persuade her that the river was a fun place met with suspicion. I stood in it, while lil' dog spectated from the sidelines.

And here we are again, back at home. She's had her supper and is presently crashed contentedly in her nest (crate). I'll have to wake her up to go outside one last time before we go to bed, but I think she's a happy dog. We certainly are and couldn't wish for a sweeter dog.
