I noticed the “Star Fire”
early Sunday morning. It started on the Middle Fork of the American River
near French Meadows Reservoir, about 25 miles to the north east of us. At the time of writing this, it's
listed as being ~6000 acres. The area that is burning is not populated, so
there's little risk to homes and businesses (a couple of campsites were
evacuated), but it's thick woods and steep canyons, so they are letting
much of it burn. We bow, as always, to the fire fighters for their efforts
to keep us safe. |

Same,

Sometime
during the night, I started smelling smoke, and around 5am heard one of
the horses whinny, so got up to check it out (Mount Murphy, about five
miles to the south of us, burnt the previous weekend, so we were a little
on edge. Monday morning after Mount Murphy, I got Patrick up at 3 am
because I was concerned by smoke). There was no fire nearby, but the
inversion layer had caused the smoke to drift over the entire area and
settle, making it look like we were encased in thick fog. |

Tuesday
morning.
I'm working at home today, and am coughing a good deal.
Everything seems to smell of a light scent of smoke. |
Tuesday
morning - with a humming bird (he was objecting to my being near his
feeder - what with him being King of That Feeder). |
