A few hundred yards further along was one of three gates that the riders
had to open during the race (the ones I'd gone through earlier were left
open for the start of the ride in the dark). If you are racing in NV, you have
to get adept at maneuvering these things open and shut and remounting
again without wasting time.

Needless to say, I won't be racing in NV any time soon.
